Basic Principles
The investment strategy study and object of this project was requested by the management of the company "Poços de Vilar Torpim," Rural Tourism & Biological Agriculture, Ldt. with the purpose of presenting its candidacy for the SI-Innovation Programme, included in QREN, National Strategic Reference Framework, and thus benefit from the advantages of funding that it provides.
Casa dos Poços will run the business of an accommodation unit, a Farmhouse located in the parish of Vilar Torpim, municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo.
Besides its main activity, Rural Tourism, the sponsoring company will explore olive groves based on biological agriculture methods.
The increase of tourist accommodation offer in the region with 10 double rooms, corresponding to a capacity of 20 guests, will stimulate the tourist demand through an active promotion of Casa dos Poços, recovering also a heritage comprised in the Park of International Douro and the Côa Valley, on the high lands of Inner Beira.

Inherited by the current members of the sponsoring company, this house has more than 200 years, and owes its name to the existence of two water wells in its construction area. As a joke, people in the village say: "the house of the wells had water even before the pipes."
It is a typical Beira house, belonging to a wealthy farmer, for it was already whitewashed; a symbol of power and distinction, and it was located in the centre of the village Vilar Torpim, on its main square.
With this investment project achievement, as proposed by the architecture plan, we intend to restore its past splendour, to rebuild the destroyed parts due to the passage of time and lack of conservation, and also correct some architectural irregularities that characterize modern masonry.
The return to former materials (granite) will prevail upon the whole reconstruction. The house outside will be made of granite stone, powerful, strong, plain & solid. Inside it will be cosy, agreeable and suitable to the needs of modern comfort. This concept symbiosis will endow Casa dos Poços with a special character included in a surrounding landscape of top quality tourism.
